Fine Art Gallery and Museum Director Carrie Weis said her selections, along with those of emerita Kathleen VandeMark and adjunct Lynette Vought present elements of nature as a constant, with surrealistic storytelling based on traditional or unique mythology that addresses life, love and the nature of all things.

“With respect to my works, plants, animals and the full moon are intended to draw upon the eternity of existence,” Weis said. “Kathleen was a member of the Graphic Design faculty, her works are the culmination of her trilogy, ‘The Great Journey,’ which is an origin story.”

Fine Art Gallery and Museum Director Carrie Weis, emerita Kathleen VandeMark and adjunct Lynette Vought present elements of nature as a constant.

VandeMark provided a narrative titled “The Telling,” which speaks to animal life migrated from Earth by aliens after an apocalyptic environmental conclusion from humanity.

“Slowly, throughout the planets, a common language from species to species was developing. Elephants could communicate with cats, dogs with horses and sheep, crows with red-tailed hawks, etc. Storytelling became their creative endeavor.”

Like VandeMark and Weis, Vought earned her Master of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. The works of these three artists will be explored in a reception and conversation on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m., with members of the public welcome to attend and refreshments served.
