A career fair for Criminal Justice students will take place at Ferris State University on Monday, Nov. 7.

A student-led effort to present professional opportunities to Ferris State University’s Criminal Justice students comes to the Big Rapids campus on Monday, Nov. 7. The Beta Kappa Rho chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon will offer a career fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the David L. Eisler Center ballrooms.

Mike Mendenhall, a Criminal Justice associate professor, is an adviser to the chapter and said these efforts build upon the Career and Internship Fair offered biannually during the academic year.

“Our LAE students take it upon themselves to organize the entire event,” Mendenhall said. “A focused career fair seems to work well for students in our school, as more than 50 departments are confirmed as exhibitors for this fair. The influence of this event is growing each year.”

Mendenhall said the range of career opportunities and scope of the fair extends beyond the state of Michigan and the Midwest.

“When this event began, we had a significant law enforcement slant to the participant roster,” Mendenhall said. “Now, there are representatives from the Michigan Department of Corrections, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, forensic science, juvenile care and probation departments across the state.”

He added, “An alumnus of the program, Tim Purdy is a training officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Fire Training Academy, but he cannot attend. Still, two representatives from that North Carolina department are coming to meet with our students.”

Anyone requiring accommodations to attend the career fair is encouraged to contact Mendenhall by email or calling (231) 591-5017 at least 72 hours in advance.
