Summer Internships: Kevin Jones

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Kevin JonesKevin Jones

He is: a graduate of the Television and Digital Media Production program in the College of Business from St. Joseph.

His Internship: Kevin spent the first half of 2022 creating a product for Little Red Fern, a video/advertising services company in St. Joseph. “I knew my boss, Ryan Cheevers, from a couple of years ago, and I connected with Little Red Fern. My internship teacher Joshua Pardon helped to secure it by chatting with him. I am learning to balance my time and how to work with clients. I am making a difference because I am helping tell the client’s story.”

Future Plans: “Going into documentary production work to tell people’s amazing stories. I hope this internship opens the doors for future work in telling Southwest Michigan’s business stories. (Kevin has operated KJones Production for nearly five years)

Advice for Other Students Seeking Internships: “Do it. Internships are amazing and there are so many things you will learn. I know it is often your first time doing something in your career outside of Ferris. It will be a great learning experience.”

More About Kevin: “I am a Brain Cancer survivor of eight years. I have been raising money for the cancer organizations I went through. In 2020, I collected over 22,000 Pop cans and bought toys for the Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

Ferris Core Value Most Significant to Kevin: “I picked ethical community because of the Ferris core value that appeals to me. When I was going through my brain cancer journey in 2014, I overcame cancer, thanks in large part to my community at home.”
