Ferris State University is getting ready for the return of our students. The traditional major move-in days start on Thursday, Aug. 25-26.

Ferris State University residence halls, suites and apartments are ready for the return of students ahead of the 2022-23 academic year. As part of this effort, Housing and Residence Life staff is preparing to manage the arrivals and engage the campus community during move-in days, beginning Thursday, Aug. 25.

Housing and Residence Life Executive Director Lisa Ortiz said the schedule calls for students moving in on that first day to sign up for their appointed time for that first day to visit Wink Arena and pick up their move-ion materials. Students scheduled for first-day move-in live in Bond, Cramer, Henderson, Puterbaugh and Pickell halls. These students also reside in East Campus Suites and West Campus Apartments.

“This has proven to be a tested method for us,” Ortiz said. “On Friday, Aug. 26, the residents of Brophy/McNerney, Clark, Hallisy, North and Ward halls, along with the east and west campus facilities, will come to the Ewigleben Sports Complex and do what is necessary to head out and move in. Volunteer greeters will cheer our arriving students with Bulldog In Action volunteers who support them in their move-in tasks.”

Ortiz said Housing and Residence Life is also sponsoring a Bulldog Beginnings activity that evening, beginning at 7 p.m.

“We hope all students, whether on campus or not, will come to the South Quad to participate in the Bulldog Welcome, where we will have yard games and a video message from our new President, Bill Pink. After that, everyone can join us for the movie ‘SuperBad,’ which we will show on an inflatable screen in that same location.”

Ferris faculty and staff are also encouraged to contact Housing and Residence Life to offer their help as members of the Bulldogs in Action team, a collaborative effort with students from athletic teams, organizations and the general campus community.

“Students can sign up to be our greeters outside the Ewigleben Sports Complex and the residence halls where move-in is taking place,” Ortiz said. “The time our instructors and employees offer, driving new and returning students from their cars to their new homes in our shuttle golf carts is a critical part of the welcoming experience. Anyone with questions about this program is welcome to call us at (231) 591-3745.”

Ortiz advised that students arriving on Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28, should go to their assigned hall. There, hall directors will have the forms and materials for students to move into their rooms or residences.

“The weekend process will be more intentional for completing the sign-in process and welcoming students at their campus home,” Ortiz said. We encourage everyone to make time for each other during move-in days and be ready for students who make for such a vital campus community.”
