Summer Internships: Arianna Hassenzahl

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Arianna Hassenzahl

She is: a junior from Oxford, studying Hospitality Management, with a minor in Event Management. Arianna’s internship is with Castle Farms, near Charlevoix.

About her internship: “I am learning a great deal about the field of event management, specifically in the wedding and tourist industries. Every day I have the opportunity to interact with guests and help them have amazing experiences. In the gift shop, I help guests experience the Castle and the surrounding area by making recommendations. As an assistant venue coordinator, I get to help wedding couples create incredible memories that they will carry with them for life.”

Future Plans: “I plan to be a professional event manager. I hope this internship increases my event management skills, especially in problem-solving and crisis management. I also hope this internship will help me to build my professional network.”

Advice For Students Seeking Internships: “Don’t be afraid to try something new. I know I do not want to end up in the wedding industry for my livelihood, but the skills I am currently gaining will be valuable to me, wherever I choose to make my career.”

Ferris Core Value Arianna Relates To: “Learning. As a student at Ferris, I have come to know and appreciate the value of being a lifelong learner. My experiences at Ferris continue to help me develop as a learner, something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
