SmartAsset's "Best Value Colleges" ranking for 2020 includes Ferris State University
among their 10 public and private universities in Michigan, based on a comparison
of student living expenses, starting salary, tuition and other factors.A New York City-based financial technology company has included Ferris State University among 10 Michigan colleges and universities deemed a “best value.” It bases its rankings on various data sources, including the starting salary of graduates, student retention rate and scholarships awarded.
SmartAsset’s 2020 rankings offer a comparison intended to illustrate the return on investment, with this compilation having been quantified in their College Education Value Index. Ferris’ Dean of Enrollment Services Kristen Salomonson said that the university is proud to have received this acknowledgment.
“Ferris is committed to affordability and preparing students for occupational success,” Salomonson said. “One of the university’s core values is opportunity, and we want to reduce financial barriers wherever possible. Another of our core values is excellence, where the essential value of a Ferris education is about more than an affordable price. Our academic programs are high quality and produce capable, responsible professionals.”
Salomonson added that Ferris’ Board of Trustees acted on Wednesday, June 17, to increase student financial aid by 2.3 percent for the 2020-21 academic year. This $605,000 increase is intended to help address hardships that students and their families face, particularly in the circumstances brought about by the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our Financial Aid office is committed to working collaboratively with students to explore every option to finance a Ferris education,” Salomonson said. “Our students and their families face a variety of economic circumstances. Our goal is for every student whose desire is to attend the university to be able to do so.”
