A former Ferris State University volleyball All-American returns to campus on Wednesday, Feb. 26, as Caroline Heitzman will offer career perspectives as part of the Sports Speaker Series. Heitzman’s presentation begins at 6 p.m. in Room 115 of the Interdisciplinary Resource Center.

Sandy Alspach, a professor of Communication and the advisor to the Sports Communication program, said Heitzman’s topic is “When Your Sports Careers Goal ‘Goes South,’ But You Find Your Niche Working In Sports.” Heitzman’s presentation will relate to her current position as assistant director of admissions-athletic liaison at Alma College.

“Caroline is a 2016 Sports Communication graduate and realized that though she was an exceptional student-athlete, becoming a coach was not exactly the path she was seeking,” Alspach said. “Working with the student-athletes at her college in an advisory role has worked out great for her, which I believe will give our students a fresh perspective on how to view opportunities that might be on the margins of their desired career paths.”

Sponsors for the Heitzman presentation include the Sports Careers registered student organization, the Sports Communication program and Ferris’ Sports Leadership Institute.

Alspach welcomes inquiries by email for more information or regarding accommodations to attend the event.
