Summer Internships: Paige Dieters

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Paige DetersPaige Dieters

She is: a junior from Midland, Michigan who is studying Hospitality Management with a minor in Lodging.

Her Internship: is at Tullymore Golf Resort in Canadian Lakes, Michigan. “I’m currently waiting tables and working small banquets or golf outings, ensuring that our members remember the social distancing rules we have set in place.”

Future plans:
“My future plans are to gain the insight and knowledge necessary to one day manage the events hosted at a resort. This internship will help prepare me for the challenges I’ll face in the Hospitality Management industry and further my love for lodging.”

Advice to Fellow Ferris Students Considering Internships: “When it comes to finding an internship, don’t be afraid to explore all your options and to put yourself out there. Getting out of my comfort zone has been one of the best things I’ve done for myself. Learning to navigate tricky situations at events hasn’t been easy, but with the knowledge and skills I’ve gained, it’s made it easier to handle.”

Other Campus Activities: “I’m involved in Alpha Sigma Tau, a social sorority on campus. Joining has increased my ability to make connections while also helping to strengthen my professional skills. I plan to join the Hospitality Management Student Association in the fall to further my education and expand my knowledge in Hospitality Management.”

Ferris Core Value Paige Relates to: “The core value I relate to the most would be learning. Learning has taken a large role in not only developing my personal skills, but also my professional skills. I’m passionate about Hospitality Management and learning new skills to make a difference in the industry.”
