The Homecoming 2018 Royalty winner Taya Treiber (fourth from the right).Ferris State University is seeking student leaders entering their junior or senior year who are engaged in the campus and community, who have developed a robust social network and are ready for an opportunity to step forward to represent fellow students, faculty, staff and alumni as the 2019 Homecoming Ambassador.
The new ambassador program’s selection process has been designed to identify and celebrate a student who represents the best of Ferris’ student population. The program continues traditions of honoring student leaders during Homecoming – one of the highlights of the Ferris academic year, each fall.
“I’m excited to broaden the campaign to include the service project and the digital service project,” said Taya Treiber, the Homecoming 2019 student committee team leader, and the 2018 Homecoming Royalty winner. “This really gives everyone a chance to better meet the students.”
Treiber, a third-year student from Luther, who is majoring in Integrative Studies, added, “I’m also proud to be a part of the evolvement from ‘Homecoming Royalty’ to ‘Homecoming Ambassador.’”
The Homecoming Ambassador candidates will be judged on a points system. Components of the point system include a résumé and cover letter (due Monday, May 13), worth 10 points; Homecoming Week activities attendance, worth 10 points; a digital portfolio, worth 20 points; student vote, worth 75 points; and a panel interview, worth 25 points. Ferris students, faculty and staff will judge the digital portfolio and panel interview. The digital portfolio will include campus involvement, community service, Ferris pride and proudest achievement at Ferris. In all, a possible 150 points are available for candidates to earn in their bid to become the next Ferris Ambassador.

Ambassador Awards
Benefits include:
- Candidates receive a sash at the parade lineup which they keep.
- The winner is announced at the football game’s halftime ceremony.
- The Homecoming Ambassador receives an award, priority registration and a $500 scholarship for the Spring 2020 semester.
Requirements for the Homecoming Ambassador
The winner is required to complete the following duties throughout the academic year. These duties include:
- Write a “letter to the editor” of the Torch that may be published (at the editor’s discretion). The letter focuses on the Ambassador’s acceptance of the title and what he/she plans to do with that title.
- Collaborate with Entertainment Unlimited to help present/introduce artists or events throughout the academic year.
- Return for Homecoming 2020 to ride in the parade as the outgoing Ambassador.
- Serve as master of ceremonies for the 2020 Torchbearer Awards Ceremony held the end of the spring semester.
Active campaigning begins on Monday, Aug. 26 at noon and runs through Thursday, Sept. 26 at 11:59 p.m.
Homecoming Week 2019 activities are scheduled for Sept. 23-28. This year’s Homecoming theme is “Bark with Pride.”
