The Ferris State University campus will brighten with pride Monday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 30, as the 92nd Homecoming celebration takes the theme of “Color Me Crimson.”

As of Monday, Sept. 24 at 8 a.m., Ferris students may vote via OrgSync on a considerable field of Homecoming Royalty candidates. Voting concludes on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11:59 p.m.

This year’s candidates are: Tyrell Austin, of East Tawas; Miranda Blaine, of Flint; Quinn Cross, of Blissfield; Morgan Dodson, of Kingsley; Allison Jackson, of Sherwood; Samantha E. Miller, of Morrice; Maria Rogers, of Grand Blanc; and Taya Treiber, of Luther.

A sellout crowd is anticipated for the first event, a performance by actor and television star Dave Coulier, which begins at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 in Williams Auditorium. Ferris student Logan Dunsmore returns for a second year as the opening act after winning a student stand-up showcase Sept. 13 in the University Center.

Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, will see the university’s Carillon Tower celebrated in a 4 p.m. event on the North Quad. The tower over the Music Building was dedicated in 1968, and among those scheduled to speak at the event are Jim Shane, the Architecture professor who created the spire’s design; Fred Lutzke, a Student Government representative at that time who spearheaded the fundraising effort; and Dacho Dachoff, a long-time director of Music Activities at Ferris, who is now 97 years old.

Other Friday events on the Alumni Association schedule include Fall Reunion, which welcomes Ferris’ Class of 1968 to the University Center to be honored as Golden Eagles. That program begins at 6 p.m. Other groups looking to welcome alumni to campus for Homecoming weekend are acknowledged in the link above.

Ferris’ Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services has collaborated with faculty, staff and students to organize the traditional Homecoming Bonfire, which will take place in Parking Lot 61 at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. The event includes live entertainment, music, games and prizes, along with appearances by Ferris athletic teams.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, a College of Pharmacy brunch will be held for the friends and alumni of that program beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the University Center. Alumni Relations Coordinator Kevin Bunce said tailgating begins at 11 a.m. outside Top Taggart Field, and their tent will also welcome guests starting at that time.

“We are thankful that the Music and Entertainment Business program, in the College of Business, has arranged for ‘Paradise Outlaw’ to perform prior to the Homecoming game,” Bunce said. “They offer a wide variety of southern rock and country hits, and we look forward to greeting our alumni while offering them a festive slider bar for their pregame lunch.”

HomecomingSome colleges and groups will welcome guests at their tents, west of the Wheeler Pavilion beginning at 11 a.m.

Ferris’ 2017-18 NCAA Division II National Champion men’s basketball team will serve as grand marshals for the Homecoming parade, which steps off at 12 p.m. on Saturday in downtown Big Rapids. Groups wishing to participate in the parade are asked to register their floats on OrgSync.

The Bulldog football team hosts the Ashland University Eagles at 3 p.m., in a game that will be streamed nationally on ESPN3. Ferris’ team has been nationally ranked throughout the 2018 season.

The university’s Black Alumni organization has planned a dinner and party Saturday evening, Sept. 28 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center, with ticket purchase available online.

Sendoff events for Homecoming 2018 include a Black Alumni brunch at The Rock Café, and a free luncheon for Ferris soccer alumni, which begins at 2:30, following the program’s 20th-anniversary celebration match against Saginaw Valley State University, which will start at 12 p.m. in the South Athletic Complex.
