Preparations are underway for Ferris State University’s Fall Career and Internship Fair, which will be held in the Ewigleben Sports Complex on Thursday, Oct. 18.
Career and Volunteer Center Coordinator Michele Albright, with the university’s Center for Leadership and Career Services, said the office has had a record response for the fair from more than 300 employers, representing a cross-section of industries whose recruiters will be on hand that day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Businesses related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics will be well represented,” Albright said. “There will also be a wide range of healthcare, retail, criminal justice and non-profit organizations taking part, as well as employers in the hospitality field. Students and alumni will be able to inquire about thousands of opportunities, both in internships and employment.”
CLACS has provided online resources, through MyFSU, such as the Handshake recruitment platform. To check employer listings and view an event map on their mobile device, participants are invited to download FairsAPP from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Albright said walk-in assistance with résumés and cover letters is available on Wednesdays and Fridays in the CLACS Career Center from 12 to 4 p.m.
“Those seeking to practice their interview skills can log onto the ‘Big Interview’ link, which is found in the students/alumni tab on our Career Center web page,” Albright said. “We invite job seekers looking for an edge to research the companies they are interested in, pre-register for the fair, build out their profile and upload a clean résumé in Handshake. We know that some of our visiting employers are already actively searching for candidates.”
Students and alumni are welcome to call CLACS with questions at (231) 591-2685, email the center, or visit them in Room 121 of the University Center.
