Orientation Sessions Scheduled to Welcome Incoming and Transfer Students to Ferris

Ferris State UniversityNew and friendly faces and a slightly altered format will be part of the program as Ferris State University’s Office of Admissions prepares for 13 orientation sessions offered prior to the start of the 2018-19 academic year.

Director of Marketing and Events for Admissions Eric Simone said this year’s group of student orientation leaders is the largest in his experience. The orientation goal is to provide a quality experience for the incoming students and their families.

“About a third of our leader group has been with us for prior orientation sessions,” Simone said. “Our staff will begin training, in earnest, following the Memorial Day weekend.”

Simone said Admissions anticipates approximately 2,000 students will take part in the day-long sessions, which begin Monday, June 11.

“There are people signing up for the sessions, regularly, so those who want to complete the process and register for classes as soon as possible should register online,” Simone said. “Our format for the orientation program has worked well, but the morning welcome segment has been altered slightly, so we can feature a broader range of speakers.”

The schedule features Monday, Tuesday and Thursday orientation sessions the weeks of June 11 and 18, followed by sessions the weeks of July 9 and 16, with a final late orientation on Thursday, Aug. 23. Simone said participating students and family members will get to meet university leaders, enjoy a complimentary lunch in the University Center’s Quad Café and make necessary arrangements with Housing and Residence Life staff. The campus tour includes a visit with representatives for a student’s selected college, providing new students opportunities to become better informed about their academic major.

“Our goal is to try and get as much good information as possible to the students and families during their visit,” Simone said. “Orientation is the best opportunity to see that new students get off on the right foot, at Ferris, whether this is the start of their college experience or helping them to continue the pursuit of a degree at the university. Beyond acquiring their student identification card, we will help them meet other students and provide the chance to get connected with our campus.”
