Summer Internships: Zach Razminas

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityZach Razminas

He is: A Summer 2017 graduate from Ludington, with his internship completing requirements for his Bachelor of Science in Television and Digital Media Production. Zach also has an Associate of Applied Science in Applied Speech Communication.

What is he learning through his internship: Zach began service as an Operations Video intern with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, serving them in Atlanta, Georgia. “After some working tournaments, I was given the opportunity to become an Tournament Director for the West Coast Travel team. So I took it, and this summer, I have been running all of the events on the west coast for the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. This involves managing a group of my own interns, organizing events, running the operations of the tournament, and communicating with parents and players. I have had more responsibility than any intern that HJGT has had before, and feel that I have made a huge difference.”

How did Ferris Help Him Gain the Internship: My TDMP internship coordinator, Connie Morcom, worked out all the details with Hurricane, allowing me to make a smooth transition into becoming an intern with the tour. That being said, I still had to interview and lock in the position.”

Previous Experience, as This Was Zach’s First Off-Campus Internship: “Throughout my time at Ferris, I was always involved with Athletics. I served as an Equipment manager for the Football team for nearly five years. Also, I worked some for the Athletic Department putting together highlight reels for the football and hockey teams. I also worked just about every Ferris cable broadcast of the hockey and football teams during the past two years.”

Advice for Ferris Students Seeking Internship Opportunities: “Listen to your internship coordinator! They have set up students for success many times, so take any advice given to you. Furthermore, have confidence in yourself and your ability. It can be intimidating applying for internships, knowing hundreds of others are applying as well. Have the mindset that you can do what it takes to go above and beyond expectations at that internship. That confidence will show in an interview.”
