Summer Internships: Andrew Klarecki

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Andrew KlareckiAndrew Klarecki

He is: a senior from Big Rapids, Mich., majoring in Plastics Engineering Technology, with a minor in Rubber Engineering Technology. Andrew also completed his Associate of Applied Sciences in Plastics and Polymer Engineering Technology.

His internship: Andrew said he was a “sponge,” while supporting projects for Nike, Inc., relating to new shoes with the AirMax cushioning system, at their headquarters near Beaverton, Oregon. “I really enjoyed the opportunity, it was a dream come true to work there.”

Previous Internships: Andrew worked with Agape Plastics, a Tier 3 auto supplier in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Applied Medical in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., where he did a study of their material delivery system.

While at Ferris: Andrew serves as the mascot coordinator for Ferris’ Student Alumni Gold Club and is part of the Society of Plastics Engineers. Early in his time at the university, he was part of the Ultimate Frisbee team in the Disc Sports Club.

Making a Difference in his Internship: ”Nike is a vast corporation, with over 60,000 employees. But, the critical thinking and laboratory experiences in the Plastics program helped me to serve as a valuable contributor in my department.”
