Summer Internship Journal: Carman Plank, Week 1

May 19, 2014

By Carman Plank

It’s hard to believe that when I came to Ferris three years ago, I would be embarking on a an adventure to Mackinac Island for the summer as a public relations intern for the Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP). I can’t believe the amazing things that the Ferris State PR program has brought to me.

I am all unpacked and settled into my room at The Mission House here on the Island, where all of the MSHP employees and interns work. I will be sharing my room with two other interns that will be working in the Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Museum, and they move in next week. I am excited to meet them.

The first week is coming to a close and I have already learned so much about my position and the Island itself. Here at work, the first week consisted of me learning what my position would entail, establishing goals, and meeting people within the office. Speaking of my office, I have probably one of the best views that an office could have; I am at the top of Fort Mackinac looking out on the Straits of Mackinac.

I’m excited for what the summer has to bring and I am looking forward to sharing my adventures with all of you.

Until next time,

Carman
