Snyder Reappoints Two Ferris Alums to Controlled Substances Advisory Commission Edit

Gov. Rick Snyder made one new appointment and 12 reappointments to the state Controlled Substances Advisory Commission. The state body recommends actions to address identified problems of abuse.

Among Snyder’s 12 reappointments were two Ferris State University alumni: Richard Dettloff, of Rockford, and Jeffrey Steffey, of Grayling.

“These talented professionals have unique backgrounds and skills in their specific fields and will greatly benefit the commission,” Snyder said in his announcement. “I am confident they will work hard to address this issue of substance abuse.”

Dettloff, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ferris and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati, is a medical outcomes specialist for Pfizer and an adjunct faculty in the College of Pharmacy at Ferris as well as at Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. He will continue to represent pharmaceutical manufacturers as a member of the commission.

Steffey is director of pharmacy services at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy with a specialty in Nuclear Pharmacy from Ferris and a master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Saginaw Valley State University. He will continue to represent the pharmacology profession as a member of the commission.

Members serve two-year terms that expire Aug. 30, 2015, and these appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the state senate.
