‘Miracle on Ice’ Captain Eruzione to Headline The Ferris Foundation Gala Benefit

Mike EruzioneThe captain of the famed 1980 U.S. Olympic ice hockey team, Mike Eruzione, will bring the “Miracle on Ice” to The Ferris Foundation Gala Benefit on Friday, Nov. 2 at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids.

Eruzione scored the game-winning goal in the U.S. team’s monumental 4-3 upset over the powerful Soviet Union team to advance to the final round where the gold medal was secured in a 4-2 victory over Finland. Eruzione, who today works as the director of special outreach at his alma mater, Boston University, will share his history-making story with guests as part of the benefit gala hosted by The Ferris Foundation.

“We’re excited to be hosting the 14th  annual benefit for The Ferris Foundation in support of our mission to advance the mission and goals of Ferris State University by generating and managing critical private support,” said Carla Miller, executive director of The Ferris Foundation. “There is a lot of buzz coming off the amazing season our hockey team enjoyed, with the run to the Frozen Four and the national championship game, and it seems appropriate to have a great leader like Mike Eruzione, with his incredible hockey background, to be our headline speaker.”

This year’s theme is “Growth through Collaboration.”

The Gala Benefit is an evening that supports The Ferris Foundation for Excellence Scholarship Program and the Exceptional Merit Grant awards for faculty and staff. The event showcases the ways the university is impacting lives and strengthening Michigan’s future through education and outreach. Today, The Ferris Foundation is in its 21st year of providing scholarship assistance to many students who might not otherwise have access to a Ferris education, in addition to providing support for faculty study, exploration and service.

The Gala Benefit begins with cocktails and a VIP reception for sponsors with Eruzione at 5:30 p.m. Dinner commences at 7 p.m., followed by the program at 8 p.m. Eruzione is scheduled to speak at 9 p.m. during the black-tie-optional affair.

Individual seats at the Gala Benefit, to support the mission of The Ferris Foundation, are $250 per person. In addition to individual tickets, those interested in attending the Foundation for Excellence Gala Benefit can choose from a range of sponsorship levels.
