Interested in getting involved, making a difference, and gaining leadership experience along the way? We are looking for first generation college students to serve on our First Generation Campus Work Group. We are also looking for students to participate in panels, trainings, and assist at first generation events on campus. There are also opportunities to get involved with the First Gen RSO. Ferris offers many opportunties for faculty to get involved with first generation college student efforts. Below are a few of the opportunities, please reach out if you have additional ideas for engaging faculty and staff!
- Celebrate National First Generation College Student Day: November 7th, 2019 in the UC
- Attend trainings or workshops put through the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) or First Generation College Student Work Group
- Join the First Generation College Student Faculty Learning Community through FCTL, this fall on Monday afternoons (6 sessions)
- Check out NASPA's Center for First Generation Student Success' website and landscape analysis
- Get involved with the First Generation College Student Work Group that meets monthly to discuss trends, outreach, ideas, and collective impact efforts
First Generation Focused Webinars (University Center, 9am-10am)
Join us for one (or all sessions) on the first Friday of every month at 9am to view webinars from NASPA focused on supporting first generation students and their families. RSVP to [email protected] via email.

First Generation College Student Week (November 4th-8th)
The first full week of November: join us to celebrate first gen students. Watch the

on social media.
National First Generation College Student Celebration (November 7th)
Join us in the UC to celebrate any time from 1:30-4pm on November 7th to mingle with first gen students. Students who attend will be entered into a textbook
First Generation Work Group (Aug. 26, Sept. 14, Oct. 14, and Nov. 7)
The first gen work group meets one Monday per month at 3pm to discuss first gen initiatives.

There will be a form available for students to request or faculty and staff to refer
students to meet with a success coach.
Staff Center Training: Being College Student-Ready (November 5th)
“Being College-Student Ready” is a professional development session that asks participants
to envision everyone who works on campus as educators, with a shared mission to support
student growth. Participants will work individually to identify opportunities to
educate students through their daily interactions.
First Among Equals: Creating a Supportive, First-Generation Focused College Experience Faculty Learning Community (Mondays starting Sept. 23rd every other week for 6 sessions)
