Quality Testing Lab: Weldment Inspection and Testing

Designed for 100/200/300/400 level course work for the instruction of weldment testing and inspection according to various welding industry codes & standards. The lab space has the following equipment features:

  • 1,074 square feet of instructional space
  • Student weldment fabrication stations –
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) / Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) – AC/DC, Advanced AC waveform technology
    • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) / Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) – Advanced DC waveform technology with pulsation
  • Down draft ventilation cutting table station for manual OFC and PAC
  • Portable Oxygen Fuel Cutting (OFC) station
  • Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC) – Manual torch cutting equipment
  • WATTS weldment testing station – Fillet weld break tests, root/face bend specimens, tensile test specimens
  • 120,000# capacity tensile testing machine
  • PAX-IT weld inspection stations
  • 150 KVa digital X-ray system with Computed Radiographic (CR) development process
  • Phased-Array Ultrasonic Testing (UT) systems with transducers and cabling
  • Electrode consumable oven; dual-wheel pedestal tungsten grinder; dual-wheel pedestal wire brush
  • Retractable, ceiling mounted, dual-outlet 115V power strips
  • Instructor teaching station with computer and overhead projection system for student lecture discussion
