Emily AslaksonAssistant Professor

Dr. Emily Aslakson is an Assistant Professor at the Michigan College of Optometry.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alma College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Psychology and Theatre.  She received her Doctorate in Optometry degree from Indiana University, where she graduated with honors in 2015.  While at Indiana University, Dr. Aslakson was the recipient of the Andrya Lowther Scholarship Award for service and humanitarianism to the community.  She completed a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the Michigan College of Optometry in 2016. 

Prior to beginning Optometry school, Dr. Aslakson co-taught at a Montessori Elementary School in Michigan for three years, which is what prompted her interest in optometry.  Dr. Aslakson brings knowledge of the links between vision, learning and development throughout the lifespan.  Her clinical and academic interests include pediatric optometry, vision therapy, vision-related learning disorders, clinical neuro-optometry and neuro-optometric rehabilitation.   

Dr. Aslakson has presented on the topics of pediatric optometry, vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation at several national and local meetings, including the American Academy of Optometry, College of Vision Development and Great Lakes Eye Care Conference.  She is currently a member of the Michigan Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and Optometric Extension Program.
