My background encompasses two of the things I love most - art and education. I have been working in the higher education sector since 2010 in addition to working with K-12 students since 2008. During that time I have developed a working knowledge and a great understanding for helping students of various ethnic backgrounds. I believe, as educated individuals there are always new opportunities in which we can learn from; as well as provide the opportunity to share what we have learned.
I was previously employed at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University as an Admissions Counselor. While working at KCAD I had the opportunity to travel nationally to conduct portfolio reviews for regional and national portfolio events, as well as college fairs. In addition to admissions responsibilities, I also reviewed incoming student portfolios for the Portfolio Scholarship, reviewed student submissions for annual scholarship competitions and reviewed potential student application materials for quality to ensure they meet all KCAD entrance requirements.
I started a nonprofit organization named Nina Jay’s Illustration to provide inner city youth with free art programs. Nina Jay’s Illustration began with the vision of providing students with a better opportunity to achieve their artistic goals and has grown into mentoring and community engagement. The goal for my nonprofit is to help our youth find their paths to success through hard work and mentorship. I am currently in the process of continuing to build upon ongoing success.
I attended Kendall College of Art and Design where I received my Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration and I obtained my Masters of Art in Education Technology from the University of Michigan graduating with honors.
