Pat on the Back Awards 2019-20

The Ferris State University Pride Committee continues to recognize and reward the small ways that we show our Ferris Pride. The Pat-on-the-Back Award is a quick, easy, fun way to let someone know that they did a good thing and someone noticed.

This award is an easy and excellent way to thank a Ferris employee or student for exhibiting pride and doing something good for others through their actions.

To nominate someone, email [email protected] with your name and address, the nominee's name and address, and the reason you have chosen this faculty, staff or student for a Pat-on-the-Back award.

Thank you for the great participation for this fun and important award.

Congratulations to the following individuals for receiving a Pat-on-the Back recognition. Each candidate will receive a Pat-on-the Back certificate.

Awardees for July 2019

David Darrow is always a ready source to help with any advising concern or need.  He is extremely helpful, diligent, and whether the answer to my questions or concerns go in my favor or not, David is always pleasant and professional. He is a joy to work with.

I would like to nominate the Grounds Crew for the fantastic job that they do. Every work day I drive by the Ferris State University sign on Perry Avenue, across from the Shell gas station. The floral design featuring the state of Michigan with Big Rapids planted in contrasting flowers makes me smile every morning. What a wonderful way to welcome people into Big Rapids and showcase our Ferris pride. I think a photo of it should be included on our home page. Keep up the great work.

I would like to recognize Jake Bouvrette for a Pat on the Back award. Jake, better known as “Bouv,” is one of the most student-centered people I know. In the last 6 months, I have interrupted him at least four times regarding students who were having trouble with their Email accounts. Each time, Bouv dropped what he was doing and gave his full attention to the students.  Most recently, a student texted me at 4:30 on Friday, July 5 because her MyFSU login stopped working and she could not access her online courses.  She thought it was a campus-wide issue and waited a day or two before trying to get help.  After many failed attempts to reach someone, I called Bouv. First, I was shocked that he was still working at 4:45 on the Friday of a holiday week.  Secondly, I was amazed that he would help because I did not think the issue is something that he supports.  Surprisingly, he asked for the student’s contact information to call the student. Around 5:15, the student sent me a text message expressing her relief and gratitude.  Bouv does not only provide technology support, but he inadvertently delivers emotional support.  He minimizes student anxiety by giving them access to the tools they need. When they call, they are anxious about doing well in their classes.  When they hang up, they are relieved and motivated to persevere.  Jake, thank you for putting students first.  You are amazing and appreciated.

Ashley Burgess – MyDegree Team – CSS 101. I would like to nominate Ashley Burgess for a Pat-On-The-Back. She has worked diligently and tirelessly on checksheets for the entire campus, making them ADA compliant as well as revising them to reflect all of the curriculum changes. She deserves so much more than the emailed gold stars I usually provide! Fantastic Job Ashley.

Ferris students Erica Foote, Megan Innis, Michael MacGregor, and Heidi Stauffer each deserve a Pat-on-the-Back Award. These four students worked a combined 16 hours helping the Big Rapids Jaycees staff the parking lots during the Mecosta County Free Fair. Monies collected from fair parking go back to the fair as well as local organizations who have provided staffing. Having never interacted with these students before, I was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism and helpful attitudes. They all truly represented Ferris State University in a positive way. Thank you so much Erica, Megan, Michael, and Heidi.

I would like to nominate Linda Hayes, Student Services Rep from the Admissions & Records office for a the Pat-on-the-Back award.  Linda always answers the phone with a smile in her voice and consistently goes above and beyond when helping students and staff.  Her level of commitment in helping with a “can-do” and “glad-to-do” attitude is exemplary.

If you would like to nominate someone for the Pat-On-the Back Award, please send your nomination to [email protected]. Recognitions are made monthly.
