Biography

M. Richard (Dick) Shaink, Ph.D. served as President of Mott Community College, a multi-campus institution serving Flint and Genesee County, Michigan, from March 2000 to August 2014.

He possesses a unique blend of business, community, economic development and educational experience having served as a former college campus president, multi-campus vice president, instruction dean, college business/industry director, shopping center general manager, industrial sales representative, production line supervisor, full-time high school vocational teacher, and an adjunct instructor at Michigan State University, Lansing Community College and currently, Ferris State University.

Dr. Shaink received his A.A. degree from Jackson Community College, B.A. in Marketing, M. A. in Vocational Education and Ph.D. in Adult and Continuing Education from Michigan State University.

He served as the Chair and President of many community organizations including a regional hospital, chamber of commerce, economic development agencies, public academic library network, educational consortium, and literacy coalition. He was a member of many community social and charitable organizations. Dr. Shaink is a past president of the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE).

He is the recipient of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) 2010 Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Award, designating him the top community college CEO in the United States and Canada. He received the Jackson College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012 and Michigan Community College Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013. Mott Community College was named one of the 2011 Top Ten Community Colleges in America by the Aspen Institute. This honor was the result of the dedicated work of the college Faculty/Staff, Board of Trustees and community.

He and his wife, Sally, have two grown sons, daughters-in-law and four young grandchildren.
