The Michigan Corporate Relations Network (MCRN) is a statewide university network designed to create partnerships that will connect Michigan's corporations to critical university assets to help promote innovative research and grow Michigan's economy. Ferris State University affiliates with the MCRN and supports both the Small Company Internship Award Program (SCIA) and the Small Company Innovation Program (SCIP).

Small Company Internship Award Program (SCIA)

Ferris State University has long recognized the benefits of the internship experience for both students and employers. Ferris' College of Engineering Technology is one of the largest in the country, and our close to 400 highly motivated students from the college's 32 degree programs gain valuable work experience each year through internships.

The Small Company Internship Award Program (SCIA) provides funding that helps small businesses (under 200 employees) provide paid internships to qualified Ferris students to work on projects that are both beneficial for your company and academically relevant for our students. Businesses are invited to apply for the program for summer 2019 internships in STEM industries or STEM-related projects.

The program provides $3,500 in 1:1 matching funds to small or startup area businesses (250 or fewer employees), reimbursed in one lump sum after the internship period.

Businesses interested in participating have until 5 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019, to apply and must be willing to interview and hire their interns by May 31, 2019, if chosen as a participating business. The Ferris SCIA application is available at Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services (CLACS) on Bulldog Connect.

As you consider applying for this program, please note the following:

  • STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
  • Internship Period: May-August, 2019
  • Small business is defined as those with 250 or fewer employees

Additional guidelines and answers to common questions are available in our guidelines document.
