Each WebCT course has a homepage (figure 1).Your instructor will add links to course tools, pages and external sites, in the form of links in the course menu, and icons on the course content area (the large pane in the center of the course window). Your instructor may have included icons which lead directly to such tools as the syllabus, mail, or calendar. Another option your instructor may have chosen is to add icons which lead to other pages of tools. To get back to the homepage you need only click on the “homepage” link in either the course menu, or by following the breadcrumbs.

The course menu is displayed along the left side of the WebCT course window (figure 2). Your instructor has included here links to the most frequently used pages and tools for the course. The user has the option of removing the course menu from view by clicking on the small green arrow to the left of the “Course Menu” title (figure 3).

The term Breadcrumbs refers to the trail-like horizontal arrangement of links displayed toward the top of the WebCT window (figure 4). By following from the right side to the left users may use the breadcrumbs to retrace their steps.

Finding help in WebCT is as easy as clicking on the help link located in the upper right side of the WebCT window (figure 5). All help is contextual, so whatever page or tool you are using at the time you click on the help link determines the help topic to be displayed. You may also click on “Help Index” for additional topics.
