Assignment Tool/Drop-box

Orientation Home || Displaying Assignments || Accessing Assignments || Submitting Assignments

The Assignment Tool (or Assignment Drop-box) allows the instructor to post an assignment and related document(s) in their WebCT course. Students may access the assignment on-line and download any related materials. Once completed, students may submit their assignments on-line. Assignment submission times are recorded, and instructors may either, review and grade the assignment on-line, or download, mark-up the document, and resubmit it so students that may review their graded work.

Available assignments have a small pencil icon next to the title; the icon changes to a watch with a pencil when the assignment is due soon, and a watch with a red burst when the assignment is past due.

In order to access the assignment, the student clicks on the title. The assignment tool page is divided into two main parts: the assignment information section, and the submission section. The assignment information section includes instructions on completing the assignment, the date that it is due, and the maximum grade possible. Any related files to the assignment will be listed and available for the student to download. Files may be downloaded by clicking on the filename.

There are two steps in submitting an assignment in WebCT: uploading the document, and submitting the document. In order to upload the document, click on the “Upload File” button; the new window will include an upload form where the student may browse their own computer for the file they wish to submit. Once the filename is displayed in the form field, click on the “Upload” button.

Note: Files must be closed (e.g. Word documents cannot be open in MS Word at the time file is uploaded) before they can be uploaded.

Uploading assignments from student desktop

Once the assignment file has been uploaded, the filename will appear in the file list. The assignment is not submitted until the filename is checked and the “submit assignment” button selected.

The status line on the “Submit Assignment” pane will indicate whether the assignment has been officially submitted.
