Cadets at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City can earn a Business Administration degree with a concentration in Maritime Management. This program is designed to give graduates of the Maritime Academy the preparation they need for management positions with shipping companies, shipyards, and ports or with non-maritime business. With both a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer's License and a strong academic preparation in business, graduates of this program are uniquely qualified for a variety of maritime management opportunities.
This program is an excellent choice for students with a specialized associate 's degree, like business construction technology, legal assistance, retail fashion merchandising. It is also great for students with an associate's in business who would like to add technical or specialized training to their credentials.
The major in business administration professional track is designed to prepare individuals for the rapidly changing nature of the work environment in business, government and other nonprofit organizations. The program is designed to equip graduates for entry-level positions as well as advancement.
Building upon a core of business courses, the program features a tight sequence of major courses; however, the program also provides the flexibility to specialize in an area of for the student. Administrative
Concentration This option is designed for those seeking
educational administration background in order to qualify for a position
as principal, assistant principal or curriculum director. Students in
this option are required to take 15 credit hours of core education courses
and 18 credit hours of education requirements. NOTE: The Michigan Department
of Education currently does not offer any endorsement in this area.
Instructor
Concentration Designed primarily for vocational teachers
who want to further their teaching skills and competence and enhance
their subject-area expertise. Students in this option are required to
take 15-16 credits of core education courses, a 2-credit hour internship,
and 16 credit hours of education or subject-area electives.
Postsecondary
Administration Concentration Designed for persons seeking
a position as a postsecondary administrator (community college/university
coordinator or department head). Students in this option are required
to take 12-13 credits of core education courses and 20 credit hours of
education requirements.
Training & Development
Concentration Designed for persons who wish to work in the
training and development field in business or industry. Students in this
option are required to take 9-10 credits of core education courses, 19-20
credits of education requirements and 3 credits of content-area electives.

Administrative
Option - This option is designed for those seeking educational
administrative background in order to qualify for position as

Subject
Area Option - This option will allow new teachers to complete
their 18-semester-hour planned program and earn a master’s
degree. It is designed primarily for teachers who want to further
develop their teaching skills and competence and to enhance their
subject area expertise. Students in this program are required
to take a 16-hour core of education courses and 6-10 hours of
education electives. In addition, they must take 6-10 hours at
the graduate level in their major, minor, or related field. Students
should consult their education and subject area advisor(s) for
recommended courses. A total of 32 hours is required for Subject
Area Option program completion.
Reading
Endorsement Option - This option is open to those already
holding teacher certification who wish to add a K-12 reading endorsement
and complete a master’s degree. The reading subject-area
test must be passed in order to qualify for the endorsement. Students
in this option must take 9 credit hours of core education courses
and 30 credit hours of required reading courses.
The Human Resource Management certificate provides an opportunity for students in any major to gain knowledge and skills in dealing with people in the workplace.
The Information Security and Intelligence degree prepares you for a variety
of career possibilities in fields that allow you to see your contribution in
action. Computer forensics, fraud investigation, information security, intelligence,
and terrorism and crime analysis

The certificate consists of a series of four courses in international management. This certificate can be earned in conjunction with the Business Administration BS degree.
Ferris State University offers an RN
to BSN program designed to give you options from day one. As you work toward
your degree, you'll choose the class location that best suits your needs, with
one day or evening a week schedules. Once you've earned your BSN, you'll be
able to choose from a variety of career paths, including enhanced patient care,
nursing management, staff development, education, lab research and administration.
Your education is designed to enhance your skills in such areas as family health,
community health and special populations health. Upon entering the BSN program,
you'll work with a cohort group through the entire program. With groups throughout
the state, you'll be sure to find one that's close to you.
Basic admission requirements: Ferris' BSN program is designed for associate
degree and diploma RNs who want to further their educational growth and development
and builds upon prior learning. To be eligible for the BSN program, applicants
must hold a Michigan registered nurse license. Prospective students must have
a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in the basic nursing program (ADN or
diploma) and in each of the biological and physical sciences.
Exploring new career options? Becoming a teacher may be easier
than you think. You can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Teacher
Education through Ferris State University without quitting your job and without
leaving town! Coupled with your work experience, your bachelor's degree in
education will give you an edge as you pursue teaching positions in high schools,
technical-vocational centers, alternative and magnet schools, tech-prep programs
and other non-traditional educational studies. This degree program also prepares
you to pursue a postgraduate degree in education or education administration.
Please note: In the student-teaching phase of the program, students may not

If you have college credits, but not a degree, your course work will
be evaluated for credit on a course-by-course basis. Those with
no college credits may begin this degree program with a general

A Bachelor of Social Work prepares you to make a real contribution. It also
opens doors for a variety of career options. The comprehensive BSW program
offered through Ferris State University gives you solid preparation to enter
the social work field as a generalist professional. The program is built around
a practice model that is appropriate for a wide variety of human service settings,
including child and youth programs, mental health and substance abuse agencies,
senior centers, long term care facilities, employment agencies, and court systems.
The BSW program prepares you for employment in positions such as child welfare
worker, case manager, parole officer, client advocate and program coordinator.
Also, the Ferris BSW program enables you to continue your education in graduate
school - a necessary step for those wishing to advance in management and clinical
positions.
Basic admission requirements: To be admitted to this program you must have an associate degree with at least 56 transferable semester credit hours (C or better) or 64 transferable semester credit hours from an accredited college or university, with a 2.3 overall GPA and a 2.5 GPA in social sciences.
The Special Education Endorsement program gives professional educators the
advanced professional development necessary to open several career options
as well as providing a foundation to improve their instructional practice.
You are eligible for admission to the program if you hold a bachelor's degree
from an accredited college or university and are a currently certified teacher
in the elementary or secondary setting. Students may also elect to complete
their Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction by completing two additional
courses.
