Virus Software

To protect your computer, the University has a license to put Symantec Antivirus on all University owned computers, as well as student computers and faculty/staff home computers.

There are two central servers that manage the Symantec program that is on your computer. The servers deliver new versions of the program and virus definition files to your computer as they become available. This applies to any student owned computer on campus, and all office and classroom computers on the main campus.

In addition, University owned computers are set to do periodic scans. The Antivirus is always on and will scan emails and files as you open them.

Faculty and staff can obtain a copy of the Symantec Antivirus by picking up the Home CD at the Timme (CSS) Building on campus. You just need to sign the license agreement and show a copy of your FSU ID. Off campus faculty and staff can obtain a copy of the Home CD by contacting UCEL at 231-591-2340 for the forms and instructions to get the software.
