Introduction
Ferris State University supplies free virus protection software powered by Symantec. To download this virus protection follow the directions shown below. Downloading Symantec Endpoint
Once you have reached the download authentication page enter your MyFSU login information in the box provided.
Before installing, click the appropriate bit format for your particular computer. (If you don’t know what version of Windows you have click Start, then right click My Computer, and click properties. Under the system properties it will either state that it is a 64-bit or 32-bit. If it is not in the description it is assumed to be a 32-bit.)
After you click what version of Windows is on the computer a pop-up will appear asking if you would like to run or save the file. Click Save to save the Symantec Endpoint setup files to the computer.
Another pop-up will appear asking where you would like to save the file to. After you choose where you would like to save the file, click Save to save the setup files to the computer.
Wait for the setup files to download to the computer.
Symantec Installation
Now wait for Endpoint to install and complete its download process. After it is complete click “Run” to run Symantec Endpoint.
You may receive a security warning stating that the publisher cannot be verified. It is safe to run this software. To proceed with the setup click “Run”.
You will then receive a configuration screen pop-up, you may need to wait a few moments for this process to complete.
Symantec should automatically do a live update. This will download and install any updates with spyware, firewall, software patches, etc…. automatically.
In Order for Symantec Endpoint to run properly you must restart the computer to complete the configuration changes. Click “Restart now” to restart the computer. After the computer has rebooted the installation process is complete.
Network Threat Protection Warning
When I open a program I get a network threat Protection popup. Error message will resemble the following picture:
Why: You may receive a message similar to this message shown below. For many of the programs on the computer Symantec Endpoint will ask you if this is a threat to your computer. Solution: If it is a program your familiar with click Yes to allow the program to the network or No if you suspect it is a suspicious program. Retrieving LiveUpdates manually with Symantec Endpoint
To open Symantec Endpoint click the Yellow shield located at the bottom right hand corner of the monitor. (Note: you may have to click the arrow underlined in black if the shield is not available.)
Open Symantec Endpoint and click “LiveUpdate” located at the left middle portion of the page.
Symantec Endpoint will automatically open the Live Update Express page showing the Liveupdate process.
