Connecting to the Internet
How to connect from your Residence Hall and other locations On-Campus. Before you can connect your student computer to the network on-campus, three software applications must be on it: Cisco Clean Access, Ferris' version of Symantec Antivirus (Corporate Edition 10), and the Automatic Updates for Windows must be turned on. All of these products are offered FREE of charge to all students. You will need to login into Cisco Clean Access using your Ferris Computing ID and password. These product verifies that your computer is up to date and will not spread any viruses. The antivirus software is set up to automatically receive updated virus definition files, and protect your computer even more. Lastly, the Automatic Update program (WSUS) makes sure your computer gets the right patches. IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS VISTA, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS BEFORE YOU START:
1. Download and run the WSUS Update Tool. To uninstall the antivirus programs you have, follow these steps:
3. Download and run the Symantec Antivirus Client.
4. Download and run the Virus Definitions Update. 5. Download and install the Cisco Clean Access Agent. 6. Open Cisco Clean Access and login using your FSU Computing ID and password.
**Please note that when you move off-campus, you will want to reconnect yourself to Microsoft's Windows Update Server by running this little tool. |
