1. What is Ferris Student e-mail?

• Students will be given at least 7 GB of available space.
• Excellent spam-message filtering
• Lifelong account
• No advertising for current students
• No cost for the foreseeable future
• Powered by Google

2. Why is the University making this change?

The migration of student e-mail accounts to a third-party provider is a big improvement for students and alumni. It enables students to keep their Ferris e-mail account after they graduate. This is something the University has wanted to offer for a long time, but has not had the resources to do.

The third party interface is very user-friendly and serves a vast number of users. Google is more reliable with handling the increased demand and adjust to changes in load. This will be a more reliable and robust e-mail for students and alumni.

3. When will this transition take place?

Moving all student accounts over on Jan 5, 2009
