INSTALLING ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

Ferris offers Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10 FREE to all of its on- and off-campus students to help to protect you from viruses. This antivirus client will give the students the most up-to-date antivirus updates for as long as they have the product installed. Even students not on Ferris network receive the free updates. Currently ALL resident students are required to have this antivirus in to connect to the campus network.

IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS VISTA, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS BEFORE YOU START:

  1. Right click on the Internet Explorer icon
  2. Scroll up to "Run as administrator" and select


FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO INSTALL AND UPDATE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE:

1. Uninstall ALL Antivirus software installed on your computer.
WARNING: There is a strong chance of damaging your computer if you do not uninstall ALL of the antivirus software. If you do not know how to uninstall it  follow these steps:


A. Click Start and open the Control Panel.
B. Double click on "Add and Remove Programs."
C. Scroll through the list of programs and find both your Antivirus and firewall programs and remove them by clicking on each one and then clicking “Remove.”
Note: If you are stilling having trouble installing Symantec after you have removed your aniti virus run the following removal tool according to the anitivirus that you just removed.

2. Download and run the Symantec Antivirus Client.

Note: At the window that pops up user your MyFSU computing id and password.

Warning: Don't forget to choose your operating system from the drop down box.

3. Download and run the Virus Definitions Update.
