1998 Women's Cross Country Notes
The Bulldog finished 11th out of 25 teams today at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships at Hillsdale College. Placing 12th in the 6K race was FSU sophomore Michelle Terry (22:57.2). Sophomore Mackenzie Woodring finished in 51st place (24:27.2) while freshman Kathryn Klaver was 56th (24:37.2) in a total field of 176 runners.
Ferris placed fourth out of 14 teams at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Lake Superior. Sophomore Michelle Terry made the All-GLIAC First Team with a 7th place time of 24:14 over the rugged 6-kilometer course. Taking 12th place and earning Second Team All-GLIAC honors was FSU freshman Katie Klaver (24:53), while sophomore Mackenzie Woodring finished 16th (25:20). A total of 127 runners competed in the race. The Bulldogs will run in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships, Nov. 7, at Hillsdale.
The Bulldogs placed 15th out of 24 teams at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships (Oct. 9) in Kalamazoo. Sophomore Michelle Terry was FSU's top runner on the 5K course, placing 30th at 18:14.07. Up next for Ferris are the Oct. 24 GLIAC Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Third-year head coach Jeff Kavalunas was recently selected as the NCAA Division II Cross Country Association's Great Lakes Region "Coach of the Month" for September.
FSU placed second with 38 points at the Ferris State Open, Oct. 2. Sophomore Michelle Terry led the Bulldogs with a second place finish at 18:27.68. Sophomore MacKenzie Woodring placed fourth on the 5K course with a time of 19:26.80. Ferris will compete at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships, Oct. 9 in East Lansing.
Ferris placed third out of six teams at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational, Sept. 26. Sophomore Michelle Terry led the Bulldogs with a 12th-place finish (19:18.90). The Bulldogs will host the Ferris State Open, October 2, at Katke Golf Course.
Ferris State won its own Bulldog Invitational Sept. 19 with 29 points. Sophomore Michelle Terry led the Bulldogs with a third-place finish (19:16.50) while freshman Katie Klaver was fourth at 20:02.0.
FSU finished second at the Lake Superior State Invitational (Sept. 12) with 68 points. Sophomore Michelle Terry paced the Bulldogs, placing second on the 6K course in 24:27. Freshman Katie Klaver clocked an eighth place time of 25:14. Ferris will host the 5K Bulldog Invitational Sept. 19 at Katke Golf Course.
Ferris State finished second out of nine teams at the Saginaw Valley State Invitational, Sept. 4. The Bulldogs scored 58 points, just three behind champion Albion. Sophomore Michelle Terry was the top finisher for FSU with a fifth place time of 19:34.
