Ferris State University sophomore Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) has been chosen as this week's (Oct. 1) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Runner of the Week after her performance this past weekend.

Muir led the Bulldog women's cross country team to a eighth-place finish in the 36th annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational held last Saturday (Sept. 27) at Montrose Beach in Chicago, Ill. Muir completed the 5K course in a time of 18:24 to finish 11th overall in a field of 330 runners from all levels of competition.

Muir has been the Bulldogs' top performer in all three of the school's meets this campaign and has two top-10 race showings to date, including a second place effort in the season opening GLIAC Preview Meet (Sept. 5) held at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. She also captured third place in FSU's own Bulldog Invitational (Sept. 19) at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

With her league honor this week, Muir becomes the first FSU women's cross country runner to attain the league weekly award since former All-America standout Jenny Irwin was a two-time winner during the 2005 fall season.

The Bulldog women's cross country team, which has been ranked as high as 19th nationally this season, currently is listed seventh in this week's (Sept. 30) U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.

The Bulldogs, who are being guided by interim head coach Steve Picucci, will next compete in the Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Open Saturday, Oct. 11, in Kenosha, Wis. The meet starts at 10 a.m. (EDT).
