Three-Time Team MVP Joins FSU Women’s Volleyball Program

The Ferris State University women’s volleyball program has signed prep outside hitter Jamie Palazzolo (Emmett/Yale) to a national letter-of-intent to attend and play volleyball at FSU, starting with the 2003-04 academic year. The announcement was made by the Bulldogs’ eighth-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.

The 5-7 Palazzolo was a three-time (2001-03) team Most Valuable Player Award winner at Yale High School and twice (2002-03) attained Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Class B Third Team All-State accolades. She totaled 521 digs, 275 kills and 58 blocks in 61 matches played while leading the Bulldogs to a 57-4-1 overall mark, a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class B regional semifinal finish and the school’s fourth consecutive league championship as a senior during the 2002-03 campaign.

“Jamie is an excellent competitor and a proven winner,” Brandel-Wilhelm said. “Her enthusiasm, intensity and spirit will add a great deal to our program.”

Both a three-time (2001-03) All-Blue Water Area Conference First Team selection and all-region honoree, Palazzolo garnered honorable mention all-conference and all-area accolades as a freshman. The two-time (2002-03) team captain earned league all-academic laurels twice (2002-03) under head coach Carl Trupp. She compiled 309 kills, 418 digs and 90 blocks as the Bulldogs registered a 58-5-3 overall record in 2000-01.

“We expect Jamie’s athleticism, speed and work ethic will enable her to step in and make an early contribution,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “We are excited to have her in our program.”

Palazzolo also participated in softball and track and field during her prep career. Besides athletics, she was involved in the school’s student council, yearbook staff and served as a class officer.

Palazzolo, who remains undecided on a major, joins Keagan Krauss (Lake Odessa/Lakewood), Molly Pickvet (Pinconning), Karla White (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) and Danielle Baucher (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) as 2003 Ferris State recruits. She is the daughter of Vito and Linda Palazzolo.

Ferris compiled a 24-7 overall mark during the 2002 campaign, which represented the program's fifth consecutive 20-win season and included a second-place 15-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division mark. The Bulldogs also claimed their 11th NCAA Division II Tournament bid in the program’s history while making their fifth straight league tournament appearance in 2002.
