Ferris State Signs Prep Standout Keagan Krauss

Two-Time All-Conference Player Joins Bulldog Women’s Volleyball Program

December 12, 2002

Outside hitter Keagan Krauss (Lake Odessa/Lakewood) (pronounced like House) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend and play women’s volleyball at Ferris State University, beginning with the 2003-04 academic year. The announcement was made by seventh-year FSU head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.

“Keagan comes from a successful and winning tradition,” Brandel-Wilhelm said. “She understands the work ethic and commitment needed to achieve her lofty goals.”

The 5-10 Krauss tallied 592 kills while leading Lakewood High School to a 64-6-2 overall record and a state semifinal-round appearance as a junior during the 2001-02 campaign. The two-time (2001-02) all-region pick also garnered first-team all-county and All-Capital Circuit League laurels for the second consecutive season.

“She has a strong desire to not only be a part of our team, but also to make a significant impact,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “We are excited to have her join the Bulldog volleyball program and I expect her to be ready to compete early in her career.”

A four-year letterwinner, Krauss set a school record for service points in 2001-02 for the Vikings under head coach Kelly Rowland. The two-time (2001-02) Big Red Invitational All-Tournament Team selection led the Vikings to the state quarterfinals twice (2000-01). She also participated in softball, tennis and basketball at Lakewood.

Besides athletics, Krauss has also been involved in the school’s Spanish Club, German Club, Ski Club and the class government. Krauss has played USA Volleyball (USAV) for head coach Trent Smillie’s Team Angle squad.

The daughter of Rolly and Sharon Krauss, Keagan plans to major in visual design and web media at Ferris State. Her father, who is retired, coached Lakewood to the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class B Boys Basketball State Championship in 1974-75.

FSU concluded the 2002 campaign with a 24-7 overall mark, which represented the program's fifth consecutive 20-win campaign and included a second-place 15-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division mark. FSU also earned its 11th NCAA Division II Tournament bid in the program’s history and a fifth straight league tournament appearance in 2002.
