Ferris concluded the 2003 campaign with a 15-14 overall mark under eighth-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, which represented the program's sixth-consecutive winning campaign and included a third-place 12-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division mark. FSU also registered its sixth-straight league tournament appearance in 2003.

Junior outside hitter Karla Fairbanks (Rogers City) and junior setter Ashley Green (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were named co-recipients of the team’s Most Valuable Player Award. A 2003 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection, Fairbanks registered a team-high 516 kills and 336 digs during the 2003 campaign. She also became the 13th player in school history to register 1,000 career kills and presently ranks 12th among the school's all-time leaders with 1,111 career kills. The 5-11 Fairbanks recorded 26 double-figure kill outings and totaled 17 double-double (kills & digs) performances this campaign while earning first-team All-GLIAC accolades. She claimed GLIAC North Division Player of the Week kudos twice (9/8 & 10/5) this campaign and ranked third in kills (4.57 kpg) and fourth in service aces (0.51 apg) among the league’s leaders.

Green, who earned honorable mention 2003 AVCA Division II All-Great Lakes Region kudos, led Ferris for the third consecutive season with 1,215 assists. She also moved into third place on the school's all-time list and currently has 3,528 career assists. The 2002 AVCA Division II All-Great Lakes Region First-Team honoree notched 50 or more assists in nine outings this season while claiming first-team All-GLIAC recognition for the second-straight campaign. Green compiled the GLIAC’s fifth-best (10.75 apg) assists figure this year.

Sophomore libero Brittny Godlewski (St. Clair Township/Marysville) received the team’s Bulldog Award for the second consecutive campaign after placing second among the squad's digs leaders with 315 total. Godlewski averaged 2.79 digs per game in 113 games this season and attained honorable mention All-GLIAC honors. She registered 10 digs or more in 16 outings this year, including a personal career-high 29 digs versus Gannon (Oct. 10).

The Coaches Award was given to sophomore setter/defensive specialist Emily Clouse (Tiffin, Ohio/Bascom Hopewell-Loudon), who notched 191 digs, 76 assists and 19 service aces in 29 matches this campaign. The 5-9 Clouse garnered a personal career-best 16 digs versus Northern Michigan (9/26) and totaled 10 or more digs in eight outings this season.

Brandel-Wilhelm also presented Captain’s Awards to Fairbanks, Godlewski and Green. The trio led the Bulldogs to wins in 12 of their final 18 matches this season. Ferris, which had no seniors on its 2003 roster, will return all 12 squad members for the 2004 campaign.
