The Ferris State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 27-25, 25-17) to Northern Michigan Friday (Nov. 7) evening in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match play at NMU's Vandament Arena in Marquette, Mich.

Despite a .129 hitting percentage, Ferris State was unable to put the clamps on Northern Michigan's offense as the Wildcats posted a .238 attack percentage.

NMU took the first set by hitting a blistering .357, but the Bulldogs battled in the following set as there were 10 ties and two lead changes. FSU led 13-9 on a kill by senior setter-outside hitter Candice Marut (Pinconning), but the Wildcats went on a scoring run to knot the set at 17-all prompting a Bulldog timeout. Three more ties would occur before Northern broke the deadlock with a point on a Ferris service error and a Bulldog attack error.

The final set saw FSU take a 4-2 lead before the 'Cats controlled play the remainder of the way as the hosts never trailed again.

Sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) had a team-high seven kills and junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) produced six kills. Senior setter-outside hitter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) set up 11 assists and is now 13 helpers shy of reaching the 2,000-career assists plateau.

The Bulldogs, who are now 16-11 overall and 8-7 in the GLIAC's North Division, served up eight aces as a team. Sophomore defensive specialist Dana Ruttle (Reed City) and junior middle hitter Sarah Lark (Alma) each registered three apiece. Redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) dug a match-high tying 11 balls on the defensive side of the net and Rich supported the effort with seven total.
