Senior Middle Hitter Hitter Earns North Division Player Of The Week Honors

Senior middle hitter Karla White (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) of the 2006 Ferris State women's volleyball team has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week in an announcement made Tuesday (Sept. 5) by the league office.

Karla White White guided the Bulldogs to a perfect 4-0 mark in the Alamo City Classic this past weekend (Sept. 1-2) in San Antonio, Texas. The 6-0 White led Ferris with 58 kills in 13 games (4.46 kpg) during the four-match stretch. She also posted an impressive .413 attack percentage with only 13 errors in 109 total attempts. White added 11 total blocks, five aces and four digs while averaging 5.38 points per game. She had 11 kills or more in three of the four matches, including a personal career-high 25 kills in FSU's 3-1 triumph Friday (Sept. 1) over tourney host Incarnate Word (Texas).

This week's honor marks the second time in her career White has attained GLIAC Weekly Award laurels as she also received the award once (Aug. 31) last campaign.

Last season (2005), White attained All-GLIAC First Team accolades after leading the Bulldogs in total blocks (121). She also finished fourth among the squad's leaders in kills (267) while starting 29 of 32 outings as the Bulldogs compiled a 22-10 overall record and reached the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament.

White compiled 263 kills, 112 total blocks and 14 service aces in 30 matches in 2004 as the Bulldogs claimed their ninth GLIAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA-II Tournament for the 12th time in school history before concluding the year with a 25-7 overall record. She was also a co-recipient of Ferris State's 2004 Coaches Award.

Ferris, which improved to 8-1 overall this campaign, dropped only one game in four outings over the weekend at the Alamo City Classic. The Bulldogs and Northern Michigan both wrapped up play in the Alamo City Classic with perfect 4-0 marks as the two GLIAC teams posted an 8-0 mark in the six-team field.

Ferris opens GLIAC action by hosting Northwood Friday, Sept. 8, starting at 7 p.m. (EDT) inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs, who are ranked 25th in this week's (Sept. 5) CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Poll, then square off against Saginaw Valley State Saturday, Sept. 9, in a 4 p.m. (EDT) league home encounter.
