FERRIS MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER NAMED SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Cadillac Native Eric Kent Awarded Annual Rick Calton Scholarship

PTM Logo Senior Eric Kent (Cadillac) of the 2005-06 Ferris State University men's tennis team was recently chosen as the recipient of the school's prestigious Rick Calton Scholarship for Business Professionals in Tennis.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student of sophomore, junior or senior status in FSU's nationally-recognized Professional Tennis Management (PTM) program, who has demonstrated exceptional professionalism. In addition, the recipient has also served as a role model to their peers through excellent performance of assignments and internships along with service as a volunteer.

The 6-1 Kent posted a 6-3 overall singles mark in his initial men's tennis season at Ferris State in 2005-06. He was named to both the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic Team along with being chosen as the squad's President's Academic Award winner for his success in the classroom. Kent compiled a 4-0 singles record in dual match competition and was 2-0 in conference matches. He concluded the year by winning his final four singles encounters.

The Bulldog men’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the ninth-straight year and 12th time in school history during the 2005-06 campaign under head coach Dave Ramos. Ferris State, which was ranked 33rd in the latest (April 28) Fila Division II Collegiate National Rankings, placed second overall at the GLIAC Tournament this season. The Bulldogs recorded a 16-8 overall record, including a second-place 6-1 mark in league action.
