EMILY MCLEAN NAMED GLIAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Emily McLean Junior outfielder Emily McLean (Rogers City) of the 2005 Ferris State University softball team has been chosen as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week for her performance in leading the Bulldogs to three victories last week.

McLean registered a .714 slugging percentage with 10 total bases as the Bulldogs compiled a 3-1 record last week. She tallied two multiple-hit game performances in the four outings. McLean notched three hits along with a double and an RBI in a 4-2 non-league opening game win at Aquinas last Wednesday (April 6) in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The 5-5 McLean also posted two hits and an RBI in the nightcap against the Saints. She scored twice and had a single hit in a 6-3 league series-opening triumph at Grand Valley State Saturday (April 9). McLean currently ranks second on the squad with a .359 batting average this season.

McLean has compiled a team and career-best six home runs this season in 24 contests. In her previous two seasons (2003-04), she combined for three homers. McLean's six homers in 2005 currently ranks fifth on Ferris' all-time single-season leaders list.

Her team-high 22 RBIs on 28 base hits this spring has already surpassed her season best of a campaign ago when she knocked in 19 runs on 36 hits in 38 encounters.

Ferris State, which is currently 13-11 overall and 5-3 in GLIAC play this season, returns to action by hosting Wayne State in a non-league doubleheader Tuesday, April 12, at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening pitch for the first game is set for 3 p.m. (EDT).
