Ferris State University junior pitcher Kayle Stevenson (Holland/West Ottawa) has been named this week's (April 20) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Pitcher of the Week for her efforts in helping the nationally sixth-ranked Bulldogs to a 4-2 mark in six outings last week.
Stevenson posted a 0.88 earned run average and allowed only three runs in 16 innings of work last week on the road for the Bulldogs. Stevenson posted a 2-0 record in the circle during the week in three appearances while giving up 21 hits. She struck out eight batters and walked four overall.
The 5-5 Stevenson gave up only a single run in FSU’s 4-1 win at Grand Valley State on Wednesday (April 15) before allowing five hits in a decisive 16-2 win at Tiffin on Saturday (April 18). She didn’t give up a run in five innings of work on Sunday (April 19) at Ashland.
Currently this season, Stevenson has a team-best 0.57 earned run average and a perfect 9-0 mark in 14 games for FSU. She's given up only 12 runs in 73.2 innings of work with 55 strikeouts and 28 walks.
A 2008 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, Stevenson received GLIAC All-Acadmeic Team laurels a season ago after participating in 28 contests, including 18 starting appearances. She was 3-1 in the circle a year ago with a 1.78 ERA while also seeing action as both a right fielder and a designated player.
Ferris currently owns a 30-6 overall record and is 16-4 in GLIAC play to date this season. FSU returns home to host Lake Superior State in a league twinbill Wednesday (April 22) at the FSU Softball Field starting at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).
