The Ferris State softball team was victorious in its 2009 season opener as the Bulldogs defeated Northern Kentucky by a 5-2 score Saturday (March 7) morning at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
Senior pitcher Holly Bruntjens (Gladstone) earned the win as she threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits for one run while striking out four, and walking none. Senior hurler, Shannon Roney (Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn Glenbard South), a transfer from Loyola (Ill.), came in the last inning to finish off the Norse.
A pair of seniors, Sarah Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) and Krystle Bailey (Wyoming/Rogers) provided all the offensive power the Bulldogs would need. Sarah led the Bulldog offense with two doubles, a single, and an RBI. Senior catcher Kystle Bailey added three singles and two RBIs of her own.
