Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes

Sept. 7, 2005

Freshman forward Tammy Unsworth (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) notched her first career goal in Tuesday's (Sept. 6) 5-0 triumph over Albion at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Unsworth also added a personal career-high two assists in the contest.

Sophomore forward Heather O'Keefe (Ada/Forest Hills Central) picked up her second career point with an assist in Tuesday's victory. Senior midfielder Britta Dahlberg (Port Huron/Northern) tallied her first goal of the season while senior forward Jen Gaylor (Roscommon) netted her first two markers of the year in the win.

Ferris State's five goals versus Albion were one more than the four total goals scored in the squad's initial four contests this campaign.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Crumback (Battle Creek/Lakeview) played the final 45 minutes versus Albion in net and registered four saves in a relief role. The appearance was her first of the season.

Ferris State, which is presently 2-3 overall this season, has totaled nine goals and only given up seven goals in five outings to date. The Bulldogs have also currently outshot their opponents 79-76 this season.

Junior goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) presently has 215 career saves and needs 97 more to match Alana Dombrowski's (2000-03) school-record total of 312 career saves. Her 18 victories (18-15-1) to date in net represent the most wins for a goalkeeper in FSU history.

Senior forward Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball) currently ranks third on the school's all-time points leaders list with 44 (18-8--44) career points. Pawloski has presently scored three of the Bulldogs' nine goals this campaign.

Senior forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) presently ranks as FSU's second all-time leading scorer and goal producer with 59 points and 24 markers. O'Brian's 11 career assists currently ranks third on the school's all-time list.

Head coach Melissa Lalonde is in her third season at the Bulldog helm and holds a 22-16-2 (.575) coaching mark at Ferris State. Lalonde presently is one victory shy of tying Pete Watkins (1999-02) for the most coaching wins in school history. Watkins, who served as Ferris' first-ever head coach, compiled a 23-36-7 mark in four seasons.

FSU's 2005 squad features four of the program's top five career scoring leaders in Lisa O'Brian (2nd-59 points), Lindsey Pawloski (3rd-44), senior midfielder Andrea Moma (Middleville/Wayland Union) (4th-35) and Jen Gaylor (5th-31).

Lisa O'Brian, Andrea Moma and senior midfielder Kristin Aukeman (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) all have played in 61 career contests, which represents the eighth-highest figure in school history. The most games played in school history was 71 by Kristin Bator from 2000-03. Moma's 58 career starts is eight away from tying Emily Rogers' (2000-03) school-record total of 66 starting appearances.

Jen Gaylor's two-goal effort versus Albion represented the 27th time a FSU player has recorded two goals or more in a single contest. Gaylor also had two markers against Concordia in 2001 (9/26) and three versus Aquinas the same season (9/12/01).

Tammy Unsworth's two assists against Albion tied the school record for most assists in a single game. The feat has also been matched on 12 other occasions.

FSU's five goals in the win over the Britons marked the eighth time the squad had netted at least five goals in its seven-year history. Ferris also tied a school record set five other times with five assists against Albion.

Ferris State will travel to West Virginia this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11, for two non-conference outings. The Bulldogs will visit West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday for a 12 p.m. (EDT) contest in Buckhannon, W.Va., and then square off against Charleston (W.Va.) Sunday at 12 p.m. (EDT) in a road matchup.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 all-time versus West Virginia Wesleyan following last season's (9/26/04) 4-0 home win in Big Rapids. FSU previously dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to West Virginia Wesleyan during the 2002 campaign (9/12) in a neutral site contest at Hillsdale, Mich. The Bulldogs registered a 6-0 home victory over Charleston in the first-ever meeting between the two schools a year ago (9/25/04) in Big Rapids.
