Ferris State split two non-conference outings last weekend as the Bulldogs beat Lewis (Ill.) 2-1 in a non-conference home contest Sunday (Sept. 18) after dropping a 2-1 setback at Madonna last Friday (Sept. 16). FSU, which is currently 5-4 overall this campaign, has won four of its last five outings to date this season.
Senior midfielder Andrea Moma (Middleville/Wayland Union) and senior midfielder Kristin Aukeman (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) both have played in 65 career contests, which represents the seventh-highest figure in school history. The most games played in school history was 71 by Kristin Bator from 2000-03. Moma's 62 career starts is four away from tying Emily Rogers' (2000-03) school-record total of 66 starting appearances.
Senior forward Jen Gaylor's (Roscommon) five goals to date this year ranks as the Bulldogs' most this season. Her five goals already ranks 10th on the program's single-season goal scoring chart.
Senior forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) presently has the program's second-highest all-time points figure with 59 (24-11--59) career points while senior forward Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball) presently ranks third on the chart with 46 (18-10--46) career points.
Junior goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) presently has 231 career saves and needs 81 more to match Alana Dombrowski's (2000-03) school-record total of 312 career saves. Her 21 victories (21-16-1) to date in net represent the most wins for a goalkeeper in FSU history.
Sophomore midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) has tallied a team-high seven points (2-3--7) in FSU's last four outings this campaign. Smilanich's six assists to date this year currently ranks as the program's fourth-highest single season assists figure.
FSU improved to 3-1 all-time versus Lewis (Ill.) with Sunday's home win. The Bulldogs have won three-straight series' meetings to date against the Flyers.
Ferris State has totaled 18 goals and only given up 12 goals in nine outings to date this year. The Bulldogs have also currently outshot their opponents 172-116 this season. Ferris has allowed only one goal or less in four of its last five contests this season. FSU has also totaled 20 shots or more in four of the last five encounters to date.
Third-year Ferris head coach Melissa Lalonde became the program's all-time winningest coach with FSU's 3-1 non-league win at Charleston (W.Va.) on Sept. 11. She has a current 25-17-2 (.591) mark at the Bulldog helm.
FSU's 2005 squad features four of the program's top five career scoring leaders in Lisa O'Brian (2nd-59 points), Lindsey Pawloski (3rd-46), Jen Gaylor (4th-37) and Andrea Moma (5th-36) .
Ferris State will open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at Northwood Wednesday, Sept. 21. The contest is set for a 3 p.m. (EDT) start in Midland, Mich. FSU then visits Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) for its final non-conference outing of the season Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 3 p.m. (EDT) in Bourbonnais, Ill.
The Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 home decision to NU last season (10/7) at Big Rapids, Mich. FSU posted a 3-2 win over Northwood in Midland during the 2003 campaign (10/2). Ferris presently holds a 1-4-1 all-time record versus NU.
FSU, which is 3-0 all-time versus Olivet Nazarene, posted a 3-0 home series' win during the 2003 campaign (10/16) at Big Rapids, Mich. In 2002 (10/5), the Bulldogs recorded a 1-0 road win agains the Tigers. Ferris also defeated Olivet Nazarene 4-2 at home in 2001 (9/15).
