Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes

Sept. 12, 2005

The Ferris State women's soccer team won three consecutive outings last week as the Bulldogs improved to 4-3 overall this campaign.

Third-year Ferris head coach Melissa Lalonde became the program's all-time winningest coach in Sunday's (Sept. 11) 3-1 non-league win at Charleston (W.Va.) as she improved her record to 24-16-2 (.595) at the Bulldog helm.

Ferris State's five goals in last Tuesday's (Sept. 6) 5-0 non-conference home win versus Albion were one more than the four total goals scored in the squad's initial four contests this campaign. The Bulldogs have tallied 11 goals in their last three outings to date after having scored only four goals in their first four outings this season.

Senior forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix), senior midfielder Andrea Moma (Middleville/Wayland Union) and senior midfielder Kristin Aukeman (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) all have played in 63 career contests, which represents the eighth-highest figure in school history. The most games played in school history was 71 by Kristin Bator from 2000-03. Moma's 60 career starts is six away from tying Emily Rogers' (2000-03) school-record total of 66 starting appearances.

Senior forward Jen Gaylor (Roscommon) tallied four goals and had two multiple-goal game performances as Ferris State won three consecutive outings last week. Her four goals to date ranks as the Bulldogs' most this season.

Jen Gaylor's two-goal efforts versus Albion and West Virginia Wesleyan (Sept. 10) represented the 27th and 28th times a FSU player has recorded two goals or more in a single contest. Gaylor also had two markers against Concordia in 2001 (9/26) and three versus Aquinas the same season (9/12/01).

Freshman forward Tammy Unsworth's (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) two assists against Albion tied the school record for most assists in a single game. The feat has also been matched on 12 other occasions.

Senior forward Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball) currently ranks third on the school's all-time points leaders list with 45 (18-9--45) career points.

Sophomore midfielder Nicole Sawada (Westfield, Ind./Carmel) notched her first career marker against Charleston.

FSU's five goals in the win over Albion marked the eighth time the squad had netted at least five goals in its seven-year history. Ferris also tied a school record set five other times with five assists against the Britons.

FSU's 2005 squad features four of the program's top five career scoring leaders in Lisa O'Brian (2nd-59 points), Lindsey Pawloski (3rd-45), Andrea Moma (4th-35) and Jen Gaylor (4th-35).

Junior goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) presently has 223 career saves and needs 91 more to match Alana Dombrowski's (2000-03) school-record total of 312 career saves. Her 20 victories (20-15-1) to date in net represent the most wins for a goalkeeper in FSU history.

Lisa O'Brian presently ranks as FSU's second all-time leading scorer and goal producer with 59 points and 24 markers. O'Brian's 11 career assists currently ranks third on the school's all-time list.

Ferris State has totaled 15 goals and only given up nine goals in seven outings to date this year. The Bulldogs have also currently outshot their opponents 134-88 this season.

Sophomore midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) recorded three of FSU's four assists in its two road contests at West Virginia Wesleyan and Charleston this past weekend.

Ferris State will visit Madonna Friday, Sept. 16, for a 4 p.m. (EDT) non-league tilt in Livonia, Mich. FSU then returns home to host Lewis (Ill.) Sunday, Sept. 18, with non-conference match time set for 12 p.m. (EDT) at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

FSU holds a 2-1 all-time series' advantage over Lewis but has lost both previous meetings to Madonna. The Bulldogs have won two-straight contests versus Lewis including a 5-0 road win in 2003 (8/30). Madonna beat FSU 5-2 last season (9/10/04) at Big Rapids. This will be FSU's first-ever matchup against Madonna in Livonia while the Flyers are 1-1 in two previous encounters versus the Bulldogs in Big Rapids.
