FERRIS STATE WOMEN’S SOCCER ADDS ROCKFORD HIGH SCHOOL DUO

Stacey Daschner & Amanda Mills Announce Intentions To Join Bulldog Program

Women's Soccer Second-year Ferris State University women’s soccer head coach Melissa Lalonde has announced the addition of midfielder Stacey Daschner (Rockford) and defender Amanda Mills (Rockford), who are presently both midst their prep senior seasons at Rockford High School. Both have committed to attend and play women’s soccer at FSU starting with the 2005-06 academic year.

The 5-1 Daschner netted 20 assists and a single goal during the 2004 campaign as the Rams compiled a 7-2-2 mark in the Ottawa-Kent (OK) Conference Red Division under head coach Wayne Vandemerwe. She previously totaled 17 assists and four goals in 2003 after recording 13 assists along with 11 goals as a freshman (2002).

“Stacey is an athletic and hard-working player with a great deal of drive for the game,” Lalonde said. “She’s a smart athlete who makes good tactical decisions on the field. Stacey loves to compete, maintains a high work rate, and will push her physical limits consistently.”

A three-year letterwinner, Daschner has also played various club-level soccer for the S.C.O.R., Alliance and Stingers programs. She earned two varsity volleyball letters during her prep career and recently received an invitation to join the United States Under 22 Select Team ,which will travel to Australia in the summer of 2006. Daschner, who’s the daughter of Doug and Sue Daschner of Rockford, plans to major in visual and web design at Ferris State.

The 5-6 Mills totaled two goals and three assists last campaign for RHS following her 12-goal and nine assist effort in 2003. Mills, who was chosen as her squad’s 2003 Most Valuable Player Award recipient, recorded three goals and eight assists in her initial prep season (2002).

“Amanda is naturally a left-footed defender and has incredible accuracy and power, which will be an asset for her in moving to the college level,” said Lalonde. “Additionally, she’s an aggressive athlete who’s able to win balls in the air and performs well against physical play.”

Mills was chosen as the Stingers’ club team MVP last season. Besides the Stingers, she also played club soccer for the S.C.O.R. and Edge programs. The daughter of Mike and Lisa Mills, Amanda plans to major in social work at Ferris State.

“Both Stacey and Amanda are skillful players who will be tremendous additions to our program,” Lalonde said. “We’re excited they’ve committed and plan to continue their careers at Ferris State.”

Daschner and Mills represent the initial members of FSU’s 2005 recruiting class. The Bulldogs concluded the 2004 women's soccer campaign with an 9-9-1 overall mark under Lalonde, which represented the program's second-best performance in its five-year history and included a fifth place 3-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) finish.
