The Ferris State University women's soccer team opened its 2004 campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Southern Indiana Friday (Aug. 27) at Allendale, Mich. The Bulldogs then tied Quincy (Ill.) 2-2 in double overtime Sunday (Aug. 29) in Allendale. Both contests were part of the season-opening event at Grand Valley State.
Ferris State will host 10 home contests this campaign at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field. The Bulldogs' first home encoutner is a non-conference outing against Madonna Friday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. (EDT).
Friday's victory over Southern Indiana came in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Junior forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) presently ranks as FSU's second all-time leading scorer and goal producer with 47 points and 20 markers.
Junior forward Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball) notched two goals in Sunday's contest against Quincy as the Bulldogs rallied from a two-goal deficit to forge a double-overtime tie.
Freshman forward Anslee Stuber-Powell (Lansing/Holt) registered her first collegiate point with an assist versus Quincy.
Sophomore goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) allowed only three goals and had a 1.29 goals against average while making 15 saves as the Bulldogs posted a 1-0-1 mark last weekend. Gilbertson totaled nine saves and gave up only a single goal in Friday's triumph over USI. She then made six saves in Sunday's double overtime tie versus the Hawks.
Ferris returns four starters and 12 letterwinners from last season's squad, which compiled an 11-5-1 overall mark under head coach Melissa Lalonde.
FSU will visit Wisconsin-Parkside this Wednesday (Sept. 1) for a 3 p.m. (EDT) non-conference tilt in Kenosha, Wis. The Bulldogs have lost the two previous series meetings against UWP, including last season's 1-0 setback (9/12/03) at Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris will also travel to Indianapolis this Sunday (Sept. 5) for a 1 p.m. (EDT) contest before visiting St. Joseph's (Ind.) Monday (Sept. 6) with game time set for 2 p.m. (EDT) in Rensselaer, Ind.
The Bulldogs have recorded a 1-1-1 mark against SJC to date after posting a 3-1 road win (8/29/03) last campaign. FSU dropped to 0-2 all-time versus Indianapolis following last season's 4-3 double-overtime home loss (9/14/03).
