Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes
Oct. 6, 2003
The Ferris State women's soccer team ended an 18-day layoff with a 3-2 league-opening triumph at Northwood last Thursday (Oct. 2). FSU then defeated Saginaw Valley State 5-2 on Sunday (Oct. 5) in Big Rapids, Mich.
Ferris' win at Northwood was the Bulldogs' first-ever victory against the Timberwolves. FSU is currently 1-3-1 all-time versus Northwood. The Bulldogs have registered either a win or tie in their last four meetings against Saginaw Valley State following Sunday's triumph.
Ferris' current 6-2-0 mark ranks as the school's best record in its initial eight outings of a campaign. FSU's 2-0 league start this season marks only the second-time the Bulldogs have opened conference play with two wins in the program's five-year history. Ferris State also won its first two contests in 2001.
The Bulldogs improved to 2-2-1 all-time in conference-opening encounters with their win at Northwood.
Sophomore forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) needs one more goal to tie current senior forward Emily Rogers' (Traverse City/Central) single-season record of 11 goals established in both the 2000 and 2002 campaigns. O'Brian, who currently has 10 goals and 22 points this campaign, is six points shy of tying Rogers' school single-season record record of 28 total points set in 2001.
Emily Rogers notched her 100th career point with two goals against SVSU. Rogers, who currently has 101 career points in 60 outings, presently is Ferris' career leader in both points and goals (39). Her six assists to date this campaign currently ranks second among the school's single-season leaders.
Lisa O'Brian's five-point outing versus Saginaw Valley State ranks tied for the school's fifth-highest single-match point total. The contest also marked the third time this season O'Brian has scored two or more goals in a contest.
FSU's five goals against SVSU ranks tied for the program's fourth-highest single-match total while its 13 total points recorded in the contest represents the sixth-best all-time single-match figure.
Freshman forward Lyndsay Sleek (Royal Oak/Kimball) recorded her first collegiate goal with 1:53 remaining against Saginaw Valley State.
Senior midfielder Holly Alexander (Belmont/Rockford) attained her first career point in 62 contests with an assist at Northwood.
Senior goalkeeper Alana Dombrowski (Gaylord) needs eight more saves to notch her 300th career save.
Ferris State's current 3.00 goals per game average ranks as the program's highest seasonal figure to date. FSU's best all-time season average was 1.84 gpg in 2001.
The Bulldogs are three wins shy of setting a school record for most victories in a single campaign. FSU previously won eight contests during both the 2000 and 2001 campaigns.
