Ferris State Women's Soccer Notes
Oct. 20, 2003
The Ferris State women's soccer team set a school record for most victories in a season with last Saturday's (Oct. 18) 3-1 league home victory over Gannon. Ferris, which is currently 9-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC, previously won eight contests during both the 2000 and 2001 campaigns.
FSU, which compiled a 2-1-1 mark in four outings last week, saw its six-match unbeaten streak end as Mercyhurst posted a 2-1 triumph Sunday (Oct. 19) in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs' 4-0 league start prior to the contest ranks as the program's best in its five-year history.
Ferris State needs one additional league victory to set a school single-season mark for most conference victories. The Bulldogs have a current 4-1 GLIAC record this campaign and are tied with the 2001 squad, which posted a 4-4-1 conference ledger.
Senior forward Emily Rogers (Traverse City/Central) tallied seven points on two goals and three assists for Ferris State in four outings last week. Sophomore forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) added two goals and an assist in the four-match stretch while sophomore forward Andrea Moma (Middleville/Wayland Union) posted a goal apiece against both Gannon and Mercyhurst.
Emily Rogers' 31 total points to date this campaign ranks first among the school's all-time single-season leaders. Rogers broke her own school record of 28 points set in 2001 with a goal and two assists against Gannon. Her 11 assists to date this season also tops her own school mark of eight assists recorded in 2001.
Lisa O'Brian currently has 12 goals this campaign and surpassed Emily Rogers' school-record 11-goal single-season total set during both the 2000 and 2002 seasons.
Freshman goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) presently holds a 5-2-0 record in net this campaign and needs one additional win to tie the school single-season record of six victories posted by current senior goalkeeper Alana Dombrowski (Gaylord) in 2002. Dombrowski has recorded a 4-1-0 overall record this campaign.
FSU's 31 assists and 97 total points this season rank first on the school's single-season charts. The Bulldogs have 33 goals to date and are two shy of matching the program's single-season record of 35 goals recorded in 2001.
Sophomore forward Lindsey Pawloski (Royal Oak/Kimball) has four goals and three assists in 13 outings to date this campaign compared to her one goal and two assist total in eight outings a season ago. She scored Ferris' second goal in last Thursday's (Oct. 16) 3-0 non-league home win over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and added an assist in the Bulldogs' loss to Mercyhurst.
The Bulldogs will visit Ashland Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 1 p.m. (EDT) encounter in Ashland, Ohio. FSU will then square off against Findlay Sunday, Oct. 26, at 12 p.m. (EST) in Findlay, Ohio.
